Confirmation of a letter of credit

A documentary letter of credit is one of the most common and the safest payment instruments in international payment transactions. It is a written commitment of a bank on behalf of the importer to pay the exporter the value of documents by the set deadline under the condition that the exporter submits the bank the documents complying with the conditions and deadlines prescribed in the letter of credit. A letter of credit offers a high level of security both to the buyer - importer and the seller - exporter. The advantage enjoyed by the exporter due to confirmation of a letter of credit is that NLB as the confirming bank assumes the risk of a foreign bank. In addition, deferred payment can be offered also for the purchase of a letter of credit and payment of the amount under the letter of credit immediately after submission of proper documents.

Confirmation of a guarantee and issuance of a guarantee based on counter-guarantee

A bank guarantee is an instrument for securing payment of contractual obligations, which an exporter may require from the buyer and which is issued by a foreign bank to the benefit of a Slovenian exporter. The advantage enjoyed by the exporter due to confirmation of a guarantee or issuance of a guarantee based on counter-guarantee is that NLB assumes the risk of a foreign bank. When an exporter obtains from a foreign bank a deferred payment guarantee as security for a deal, NLB, besides the confirmations, offers factoring of receivables under the guarantee and payment of the amount of receivables immediately after submission of proper documents stipulated in the guarantee.
