Campaigns for infants and children with a serious disease

In June 2016, the Bank and its clients successfully carried out a fundraising campaign for urgently needed medical equipment at Slovenian maternity hospitals. Bringing the marketing and humanitarian aspects together, the Bank donated EUR 55,400 from housing loans sold. The campaign was welcomed by the employees of six maternity hospitals, young mothers and their families.

In December, the Bank conducted a campaign with the Hit Radio Centre to raise funds to construct an annexe for young cancer patients at the Paediatric Clinic of the University Medical Centre in Ljubljana. The campaign started with Santa Clauses descending from the children's hospitals in Jesenice, Maribor and Ljubljana. After that, the Santa Clauses went through the departments of the clinic, giving children the presents donated by various donors. The Santa Clauses gave away presents with the help of Čuki, Ranko Babič, Nik Henigman, BQL, Tanja and Kori.

This campaign also included clients who had opted for instalment buying in the holiday season. The Bank installed money boxes in its branch offices, from which more than EUR 4,000 was collected. A total of EUR 20,000 was donated by the Bank at the end of the campaign. Another EUR 3,000 was raised by SMS messages.

Our hospital, in particular the Departments of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, are packed during the peak periods. At that time, we need more beds and a day hospital. We admit very ill children from all over Slovenia and the day hospital often resorts to the halls and the terraces, which are neither patient-friendly nor safe.

Nation-wide campaign with the Red Cross "Let's take them to the seaside" and "It's nice to share"

On a Saturday in September 2016, our colleagues at the NLB Contact Centre as volunteers raised more than EUR 64,000 donated over the telephone in the scope of the traditional charity concert, organised by the Red Cross of Slovenia for the ninth consecutive year.

Our colleagues at the NLB Contact Centre were given help in answering the phones by some TV celebrities.

The funds raised go for the nation-wide campaign "Let's take them to the seaside" (link), whereby we help children from a socially disadvantaged environment enjoy some free holidays by the sea, and the traditional campaign "It's nice to share" (link) for raising funds for additional food packages for the elderly.

At the 9th charity concert organised by the Red Cross of Slovenia in Cankarjev dom, the guest of honour Prime Minister Miro Cerar stressed: “Slovenia is a country of big-hearted people”. The same is true of our colleagues, who every year are very willing to help.

Fundraising event: "Let’s Dance for Mothers and Children"

In September 2016, NLB Banka Prishtina organised an event called “Let’s dance for mothers and children” with the purpose of raising funds for paediatric equipment for as-yet-unborn children. With the aid of numerous donors, almost EUR 40,000 was raised.

Blood Donor Campaign

In cooperation with the Red Cross, a blood donor campaign was again organised in 2016 involving over 70 blood donors, employees of the NLB.

At the NLB, we have been organising blood donor campaigns since 2011. Our employees may decide to give blood several times a year, also outside the terms of our organised campaign. Slovenia on average needs 300 to 350 blood donors a day to ensure the quantities of blood it requires.

Giving blood is a very noble act

Socially responsible actions

In Martjanci, over 20 NLB volunteers rolled up their sleeves

The employees also act socially responsibly. The start of summer was marked by the NLB Sports Games on a social note as we, the employees, apart from engaging in sports activities, helped renew the exterior and interior parts of the local sports and recreational centre in Martjanci to the delight of the village community of over 5,000 people.

We rolled up our sleeves, put on overalls, took brushes in our hands and off we went. Over 40 volunteers helped paint the sports hall, wardrobes, the children’s playground and the outer fence.

Coexistence within the local community

In October 2016, we opened the door of our renewed Vrhnika Branch Office to clients and donated much-needed funds of EUR 3,000 to the nearby kindergarten for the purchase of playground equipment required at various kindergarten units. On behalf of the children and the parents, the kindergarten principal Mrs. Marta Samotorčan expressed her gratitude for the donation received, stressing that kindergarten teachers, like bankers, continually strive to have their customers satisfied.

The Bank helped pensioners in Sežana purchase an elevator

The residents of the Old People's Home in Sežana will be able to use a new elevator for which the NLB donated some of the funds on the Home’s 40th anniversary. We believe that our support for purchasing the elevator has added a small stone to the mosaic of high quality health care for the elderly.

The months ahead of us bring numerous challenges. We will again start the renovations, which we are looking forward to in spite of the changes in the daily routine resulting from major construction works. Every change for the better further improves the quality of life of our residents. We wish to sincerely thank Nova Ljubljanska banka for all the help, proving how important it is to cooperate, not to exclude and to seek the best in us and others in this rapidly changing world.
Rosana Šturm, Director of the Old People's Home in Sežana

The NLB has its own beehive

In spring, a beehive carrying the NLB logo was set up in a study bee house at the Bilingual School in Lendava. ‘Inside sources’ have told us that ‘our bees’ are very diligent since they only land on plants with the most honey.

Bees know where to save. Images of a bee and bee basket are most often used to denote saving on the façades of financial institutions, and on medals and diplomas as a symbol of merit and hard work.
