NLB Banka Skopje
In 2017 the NLB Gallery once more confirmed the well-deserved reputation as “Best gallery in the country,” by organising 13 exhibits for which the bank gladly donated its space and effort in organising, all with the aim toward promoting art in Macedonia. NLB Gallery openings have become events to which the Skopje public looks forward, they are highly anticipated by the media, and provide opportunities for the Bank’s employees to socialise. Although it’s very hard to judge and evaluate in the world of art, the Bank decided to donate its space in 2017 for the following events:
- Exhibit ‘Lipicanci,’ photographs by the Slovenian photographer Alenka Slavinec, organised by the Slovenian Embassy in Skopje
- Exibit of photographs from the sports association ‘Prv do vrv’ (First to the top) – At the NLB Gallery the organisation also held its annual assembly on the opening night of the exhibit that contained the professional photographs from their climbing, marathon, and other organised events.
- Exhibit by academy painter Valentina Ilijovska
- Exhibit ‘Golden dust’ the exhibit that marked the year for the NLB Gallery, as well as for exhibiting the history of our country
On 25 April 2017 the Macedonian National Bank gave us the privilege of hosting the exhibit ‘Golden Dust’ at our NLB Gallery, and marked the 25th Anniversary of the Macedonian Denar and the 25th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republics of Macedonia and Slovenia. Therefore, on the opening night the present guests were addressed by Mr. Dimitar Bogov, Governor of NBRM, and His Excellency Mr. Milan Jazbec, Slovenian Ambassador in Macedonia. The exhibit was brought by the National Museum of Slovenia, and contained the art work of the artist couple Mr. Rudolf Španzel, the father of the Slovenian Tolar and Mrs. Biljana Unkovska, the mother of the Macedonian Denar (as the media calls them), enriched by the art work by their son Dorian Španzel, who as an artist is a designer of currency bills, as well.
- ‘Skopsko leto’ (Skopje summer festival) Every year on June 21, the first day of summer and the ‘World Music Day,’ 30 different premisesscenes lift their curtains to the urban art called ‘Skopje Summer,’ manifestation that is being held since 1948. And while all over the city the open scenes are throbbing to the rhythm of spirituality, the NLB Gallery in Skopje traditionally hosted Skopje Summer with two new exhibitions. The first exhibit was laid out by the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia, organised not only by Skopsko leto and NLB Banka, but the Serbian Embassy in Skopje as well.
- The second exhibit of ‘Skopsko leto’ was by the phenomenal Bosnian artist Adin Hebib.
- August is usually a month where the Galleries in Skopje are empty; this, however, was not the case with the NLB Gallery. In August the NLB Gallery hosted one of the most significant exhibits this year, a humanitarian sales exhibit for gathering funds for the ‘Life Spark’ AntiCancer Organisation. The Life Spark Anti-Cancer Organisation was selling the artwork that was donated to them by the Apostolovi family. The family of our colleague Kiraca Apostolova who lost her battle to cancer three years ago, at the age of only 26, wanting to honor her birthday, managed to gather the paintings as donations from various Macedonian painters (but mainly from the legendary painter Pavle Kuzmanovski). NLB Gallery donated the space, where the exhibit arts were presented for 10 days, having an official opening and official closing. On the closing night we managed to sell all the paintings. The Bank also purchased a painting that now hangs at our headquarters, reminding us of the everyday battles that cancer patients fight, and thus keeping alive the memory of our colleague Kiraca.
- On September 4th, 2017 the exhibit by Nadja Petrovik was officially opened at NLB Gallery in Skopje. As Mr. Antonio Argir, President of the Management board of NLB Banka AD Skopje stated in his speech while declaring the exhibit officially opened, “A feature of creativity is ‘out of the box’ thinking. Nadia Petrovik not only thinks out of the box, she creates her own circle, her own vision in which she portrays, in a unique and specific way.”
- Grupa 77 (Group 77) Association of painters from Bitola – The exhibit was held on the occasion of the 40 years existence of the group that was founded by the legendary Macedonian painters Dimitar Kocevski – Mico, Sveto Manev i Ilija Kocovski.
- Exhibit by the Czech Embassy in Skopje, celebrating their national day and presenting the collection of professional photographs representing the unique Czech inventions that the Czech people have given to the world.
- In 2017 for the 6th time a Great exhibition of children's drawings
- The Exhibit was opened by Mr. Antonio Argir President of the Management Board of NLB Banka and the acclaimed Macedonian painter Ankica Vlasic Grozdoska.
- As a supporter of art and science, NLB Banka, on the occasion of NLB Savings Month, traditionally, organises an exhibition of children's drawings this year on the topic ‘Savings and Science.’ The drawings were collected through organised fun and educational visits to many schools and kindergartens in Macedonia and in the Bank's branches. The start of the activities for collecting the drawings was marked with NLB Day on September 25th, which was organised in the NLB Gallery.
Then in a period of one month, till until October 25, all children had the opportunity to bring drawings that were published on a special website http://stedenje.nlb.mk, where everyone was able to vote for the best drawing.
- During the NLB Savings Month about 1,700 drawings were collected. The drawings were reviewed by a commission composed of renowned Macedonian artists: Sergej Andreevski, Konstantin Kachev, Hristijan Sanev, and Ankica Vlasic Grozdoska, who chose the best drawings. In addition to the awarded drawings by the expert commission, awards were also given to the drawings that won the largest number of votes through the special website. At the opening of the exhibit the best drawings were rewarded with saving accounts, and at the same time certificates of appreciation were granted to all schools and kindergartens that participated in the activities for the Month of Savings.
- MiniArtura. At the Traditional Annual exhibition of Miniatures, organised by the Association of Macedonian Artists, 73 members of the Artists Association from all over the country presented themselves. At the opening of this exhibition NLB Banka presented the artist Stefan Hadzi Nikolov with the NLB Mini Art Award, making his piece a part of the Bank’s collection.
- Vevchani sightings. Organised by company VIAVevchani, the NLB Gallery, once again, welcomed the exhibition of paintings by the Traditional International Art Colony ‘Vevchani Sightings’ - 2017, in which a whole palette of artists from all over Europe presented their work.
Besides these the NLB Gallery hosted several press conferences, internal lectures and trainings, celebrations, and New Year’s cocktails, donating actions by the Bank and its employees, etc., making it one lively and joyful space. One of these events included the two seminars “Women in Business.”
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has partnered with NLB Banka AD Skopje to support women entrepreneurs in Macedonia.
The seminars on popular topics such as ‘Develop Your Business: Expand Your Business outside the Borders of the Country,’ were each attended by 40 representatives and company leaders, who had the opportunity to receive helpful advice and at the same time, this event was an exceptional opportunity for clients to expand their network of business contacts, to meet other ‘Women in Business’ from Macedonia, and to share their knowledge and experience for successful cooperation with NLB Bank.
In 2017, on several occasions in all branch offices of NLB Banka AD Skopje, we’ve organised a NLB Day for all clients who receive their pension in NLB Banka. The purpose of this activity was to reduce the waiting lines and educate our clients about the benefits of using the ATMs. For this NLB Day for our pensioners, we prepared brochures with advice for a healthy life and healthy habits, as well as summer refreshments and promo vouchers.
On the same day, the pensioners were presented with the advantages of using the NLB ATMs:
- how to withdraw their pensions using the ATMs and avoid waiting in line in the branch offices;
- how to pay their monthly bills quickly and easily by using the ATMs;
- how to use cash in functionalities of the ATMs.
Our friendship with the athletes from Special Olympics Macedonia began at the end of 2016 when we invited them to join us for a sales exhibition of the children’s drawings gathered in the Bank during the NLB Savings Month competition for the best drawing. At the sales exhibit all present guests (clients, employees of the bank, etc.) donated for helping the SOM athletes in their future achievements and training by purchasing the drawings. There we had the opportunity to socialise with the SOM basketball team - silver medal winners at the Special Olympics in Los Angeles, CA USA.
Then, we socialised with the SOM athletes when they came to our 9th internal NLB Banka AD Skopje sports games in March 2017, where we were playing sports together, we competed in basketball, but we also cheered for all competitors, above all for Bojan Trajkovski, who came directly from the Special Winter Olympics Austria 2017, with two silver medals in the giant slalom and super giant slalom. We are proud of his success, and the fact that we have the privilege of helping him in the fulfillment of his dream, and we all gave him an appropriate welcome. Standing ovations filled the sports hall once Bojan entered, and Mr. Antonio Argir, President of the Management Board handed Bojan a plaque thanking him for representing our country with such success.
The Bank then supported the National Basketball Tournament of the Special Olympics Macedonia.
At the end of the year, aware that the athletes with whom we befriended in the past year are also in need of Christmas gifts, we organised the action: ‘Let's give away what we would like to receive.’ So, on NLB Net we published a list, stating for which athlete each organisational unit in the Bank would purchase a New Year’s gift. All employees donated funds, and together each organisational unit in the Bank purchased a gift for one athlete. Then, at the New Year's Cocktail at the NLB Gallery, all organisational units brought the gifts nicely wrapped, and a card marked for whom the gift was intended. The holidays are a time for gifts, but also a time for getting together with friends, so for Christmas, we invited our friends from the Special Olympics for a party at the NLB Gallery.
Our guests did not know that they would leave with gifts, so we first talked about the past successes: skiing in Korea, the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, for their countless achievements, but also for the plans and preparations for the summer Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi 2019.
We also evoked memories from past comrades, until the time for gifts came. The colleagues who came were helping to open the boxes and unloop the ribbons – opening the gifts with wide smiles the athletes were trying out the new tracksuits, hats, and scarves, bragging to friends with the new backpacks, showing off some cool moves with the new basketball, and countless "Thanks"!
In the end, we received promises of many more medals in the New Year that for our friends from the Special Olympics started with the joy of surprises!

New Year’s event for corporate clients “All NB Stars”
Traditionally, last December we organised an event for corporate clients with whom we are doing business daily aiming to develop economy and business conditions together in Montenegro. The event gathered a huge number of clients - successful entrepreneurs, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as well-known corporations, and offered quality and diverse content which, we are sure, gave added-value and quality to our customers. They had a chance to watch a short film about the most successful projects in 2017 that NLB supported, attended and actively participated in the speech of Miha Pogacnik, violinist and an innovative speaker on the topic of leadership, the Slovenian Ambassador of Culture, and donated funds for maternity hospitals in Montenegro within the campaign ‘Small Steps Change the World for the Better.’
The short film presented only some of the many successful projects of our clients, which we realised in 2017, aiming to show how we can improve our business. The appearance of Miha Pogačnik, an expert in leadership innovation, a violinist, a visionary, and interactive speech ‘The Art of Leadership,’ offered an innovative approach and in an unusual way, interactively and with the sounds of the violin, through classical music clarified the principles of guiding, and closed with the similarities between art and business. We completed the year as a socially responsible company that wants to leave a mark on the country in which it operates. Within the action ‘Small Steps Change the World for the Better,’ we donated funds in the amount of EUR 10,000 to maternity wards in Bijelo Polje and Berane for the purchase of necessary equipment.

The right start
We supported the presentation, THE RIGHT START at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Montenegro with the lecture by Chief Executive Officer Martin Leberle. The lecture was held on the third day of the event that runs from February 13th to 16th, 2017.The 'Right Start' was organised to provide students opportunity to meet successful business people, and at the same time receive useful and important information that will make their study process of a higher quality. The lecture on the topic ‘Evolution of Banking,’ with a reference to NLB Bank AD Podgorica, offered the answers to topical issues in banking: Why is it necessary for banks to develop? What is the consequence of the evolution of clients and their needs? How are challenges managed in the field of banking? Additionally, students received insight into how NLB Bank wants to combine its real advantages and position on the market with its innovative capabilities, as well as the fact that the banking sector is rapidly developing, and that a timely response is needed. The market situation shows that in the new world of innovation, speed is more important than the size of an enterprise. Certainly, the key message to the students was related to the importance of acquiring international knowledge and business experience, with the obligatory return and help in the development of their wonderful country. Except the Chief Executive Officer of NLB Bank, on behalf of NLB Bank, also the former students of the Faculty of Economics and Law, Vladana Raičković - an analyst in the Risk Management Division and Radovan Vujadinović - Assistant Chief Executive Officer had the opportunity to convey their experience of employment through the Government's vocational training program, as well as the experience of working with the Bank.

Kindergarten Osmijeh
is suported by the procurement of sound equipment. The donation was organised on the premises of this educational unit, where the representatives of the bank had the opportunity to socialise with the children from the kindergarten. In addition to the educational function, events in kindergarten for children create a pleasant atmosphere and require a serious and responsible approach to the event itself. The participation of children has an invaluable significance for their experience of self and developing self-confidence, as their first applause is confirmation that what they do is worthwhile and kind. These events are a special way for children to get to know the world of music, they are able to express their emotions and thoughts through music, rhythm, and movement, so the donation of NLB Bank came to the right place.
