We promote sport among youth and support top athletes

The Bank continues to support top Slovenian athletes, who are the greatest ambassadors of Slovenia in the world. The Bank’s long-lasting support of sports with a great emphasis on sports for young people expanded in 2018 with the initiative “NLB Sports for Young People” promoting responsible sport education of young people on the regional level.

Support for the professional athletes

The Bank continues to support top Slovenian athletes, who are the greatest ambassadors of Slovenia in the world. As a Golden Sponsor of the Slovenian Alpine Ski Team for the twentieth year now, the Bank was their reliable supporter enabling success stories Ilka Štuhec's. In the past four years, the Bank provided sponsorships to other important sport federations. In 2017, the Bank became a sponsor of Slovenian Football Team, the official sponsor of the Handball Federation of Slovenia. NLB has also supported the Table Tennis Association of Slovenia and Sailing Association of Slovenia for several years. Crossing fingers for our athletes and wishing them a lot of success and victories.

The campaign “Stronger Together”, in the framework of which we support Ilka Štuhec in her recovery efforts, was selected as the advertising campaign of the year by the readers of the Marketing magazine. In addition to communicating good wishes, the purpose of the campaign was to tell that in life, only the best mentors at our side can help us be stronger and ready for the challenges that await us.

We collected funds in NLB Branched in 2018 for URI Soča

At the press conference of the Handball Association of Slovenia held in the Innovative Banking Centre, Blaž Brodnjak, President of the Management Board of NLB d.d., congratulated the young handball team who won a gold medal at the European Champions up to 20 years and presented them a donation for exceptional achievements.

To stand by someone’s side means to understand, it's not the most important thing to always win.

The NLB is proud to support the Slovenian handball, which is recognised for their fighting spirit, speed and collective efforts. At the NLB, the support to youth sports is an important aspect of our social responsibility, since those are young people that will create the destiny of the Slovenian handball in the future. We are proud of you and we will continue to support you.

Youth Sports 2017

The Bank’s long-lasting support of sports with a great emphasis on sports for young people expanded in 2018 with the initiative “NLB Sports for Young People” promoting responsible sport education of young people on the regional level. With this project, NLB wishes to strengthen its long-term socially-responsible initiative, encouraging young recreational athletes in all Slovenian regions to exercise and lead a healthy life.

With the cooperation of local sport clubs, the Bank makes sure that it works well with the local community. This initiative supports the idea of fair play education, promotes responsible behavior, and emphasizes the importance of workout in general. The programme was also established to connect various local communities in Slovenia and increase the number of people taking up sports as well as promote socially responsible practices among young people.

The greatest success is not only in winnig, but in the inspiration given to the others.

In 2018, the Environmental and Social Policy of the NLB Group was revised and it was decided that the funds earmarked for the Youth Sports project would be equally distributed among all Slovenian regions, by key sports that had been defined as the pillars of the NLB’s social responsibility and through which we actively participate in the society also in the area of professional sports or those crucial for the Bank’s business cooperation: skiing, football, handball, table tennis and sailing. The Bank financially supported 40 sport clubs for young athletes.

We encourage and help to fulfil the potential.

We supported the Junior Ski Team of the Ski Association of Slovenia. The cooperation will be supported by mentorship. We will prepare a financial literacy programme for the young skiers and plan their financial future together. Each junior skier will have a banking expert as a mentor, to provide advice, support and be available to answer any question and provide any other assistance required.

By supporting the Junior Ski Team we wish to encourage young people, who live more or less in a virtual world nowadays, to go back to nature, sports halls and courts, to learn how to win but also how to lose with dignity, stand up again and fight even harder. The NLB has a tradition of supporting skiing which is without doubt Slovenia’s most popular national sport. We will continue to support skiing and even further strengthen our activities of supporting young people, not only in skiing, but also in handball, football, table tennis, etc. On the one hand, this is because young people are our future and on the other hand our aim is to promote our mission, which is to show young people which things are important.

NLB WHEEL

Team sports require team efforts to achieve good results - it is good to know that one can always rely on the teammates, trust them and pursue the set goals with even more success. While some people take participation in various sports events for granted, many are not so lucky.

This is why the NLB Group has been proudly supporting the international wheelchair basketball league NLB Wheel for 11 years. We provide support to help the basketball players exploit their potential and let them know, with the team spirit in mind, that we can be stronger together.

At the final meeting of the NLB Wheel league we drew two wheelchair basketball players who received new basketball wheelchairs. With our support, the new basketball wheelchairs and their dedication to sports the lucky winners Igor Ignjatović (KKI Vrbas) and Sabid Karupović (KIK Sana) will be ready for all challenges awaiting them in the future.

NLB Ski Camp for the Paraplegics' Association of Slovenia

Thanks to a donation provided by the NLB, 18 paraplegics of the Paraplegics' Association of Slovenia learned how to ski at Rogla. The Association organised the 11th ski camp. A lot of members of the Paraplegics' Association of Slovenia have already skied before their injury and it is of vital importance that their sports activities continue also after the injury, in a seating position.

The Faculty of Health Sciences provided valuable help in the organisation of the camp, since the beginnings of learning how to ski are difficult and the skiers need lots of help by volunteers. Before the end of the camp, a competition was also organised for the participants.
