Humanitarian Projects
The Bank takes special pride in its traditionally high number of humanitarian projects supported in cooperation with customers and employees.
The common thread of the NLB’s this year’s humanitarian engagement was the help provided to sick children. The donation to the Department of Neonatology of the Paediatric Clinic of the Ljubljana University Medical Centre was the final act of the “Small steps changing the world for the better” campaign started in the Ljubljana Maternity Hospital in 2015. In the four years of the campaign, we donated more than one hundred thousand euros for the purchase of the necessary medical and other equipment within the “Small steps changing the world for the better” campaign to all Slovenian maternity hospitals. The donation to the Department of Neonatology of the Paediatric Clinic of the Ljubljana University Medical Centre was the final act of the large campaign. The Department of Neonatology of the Paediatric Clinic of the Ljubljana University Medical Centre is the national reference centre for diagnostics and treatment of sick new-born babies to which all new-borns from all Slovenian maternity hospitals are referred. It was refurbished with the funds provided by the University Medical Centre and the donations by partners, such as our Bank.
Together with our clients, the NLB helped raise funds for the sick children, among other also using our state-of-the-art product, the NLB Pay mobile wallet and in the collection boxes installed in our branch offices.

At the hospital's Olympic Games in URI Soča, we donated funds to help the children in recovery. We invited Ilko Štuhec with us to participate the event, and to cheer for the competitors in all sports categories of small patients.

In 2019 six NLB branches were renovated. At each opening of the renovated branch, we donated funds to the local health, cultural or educational institution. The branches in Maribor, Domžale, Sevnica, Kamnik, Murska Sobota, Ljubljana, etc. were renovated. In 2018, all together with the opening of renovated offices, we donated EUR 30.000.

In September, the NLB’s 40 volunteers who received donator calls in the Contact Centre again participated in the charity campaign "It's nice to share" organised by the Slovenian Red Cross. They received 1200 donator calls and raised EUR 20,000. The cyclist Primož Roglič, the young ski jumper Špela Rogelj, the former ski champion Alenka Dovžan and the legendary Lado Leskovar participated in the "It's nice to share” campaign by receiving the calls. They raised a total of EUR 20,778 in donations.

The events at the NLB Contact Centre were also recorded by the television team of RTV Slovenia. The employees of NLB d.d. also donated via a special web page, where it was possible to donate by clicking the selected amount.
In November 2018, NLB d.d. participated in the auction organised by the France Prešeren Gymnasium Kranj, at which the former students raised funds for the Dovžan family that lost its home in a flood. At the auction, the NLB purchased the ski suit that belonged to Ilka Štuhec which will be donated for charity.
Nature sometimes has quite unpleasant surprises in store for us that turn our lives upside down. In 2018, the inhabitants of Bela Krajina were hit by a severe storm, heavy rains, wind and hail, which caused extensive damage and a lot of problems. It is good to have the right people and the right solutions nearby. Advice and assistance was provided to the clients facing the consequences of the storms in all NLB branch offices. We also made a donation to the Fire-fighters’ Association Črnomelj which was the first to offer help in eliminating the consequences of the storms.

In spite of the known harmful effects for the animals, people and the environment, as well as frequent warnings, we are still facing the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnics in December. Therefore, TAM-TAM has been the promoter of the socially responsible poster campaign “Firecrackers? No, thank you!”, for the sixth consecutive year and the NLB again joined the campaign at the end of November.
