PROTECTION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia declared the NLB Museum and Art Collection to be a national treasure

The collection comprises a selection of 2294 works of fine art of the Slovenian artists from the 20th century and is considered the largest private collection of the works of fine art in Slovenia.

The Ministry of Culture responded to the initiative of NLB d.d. and decided to protect the NLB Museum and Art Collection. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia declared the NLB Museum and Art Collection to be a national treasure.

The NLB Museum and Art Collection is the result of the Cultural Heritage Management Policy which the NLB has systematically created and managed since 1999 in cooperation with the established Slovenian experts. The collection comprises a selection of 2294 works of fine art (of which 315 banking items) of the Slovenian artists from the 20th century and is considered the largest private collection of the works of fine art in Slovenia.

It is no longer necessary to fear that the collection would be alienated or that it would disappear, as often suggested by the media. I am happy to confirm that we will continue our productive cooperation with the NLB in the effort of making a large part of the collection accessible to the public, so as to enable the continuation of this important patronage that has been going on for decades. The NLB is a very diligent owner that has been striving to increase the popularity of the collection since 2016 and its inclusion in the list of national treasures means that the collection will remain in the NLB’s ownership and on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.

We welcome the active approach and the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture which recognised the importance of our cultural heritage and the need to arrange the status of the NLB Museum and Art Collection, so that it remains a treasure of the Slovenian nation. We at the NLB are extremely proud of our cultural heritage and take good care of it, as diligent owners.
